Yuezhong Share: Loader shovel teeth wear out quickly? Experienced drivers share five tips to extend life

As a key component that directly contacts materials, the wear rate of loader shovel teeth directly affects construction efficiency and cost. Many users complain that the shovel teeth break or become excessively worn within a month of use. In fact, mastering the correct use and maintenance methods can effectively extend their service life.

First of all, the shovel teeth should be selected "for the right condition". Different working conditions require different types of shovel teeth: when digging hard rock or ore, you should choose a "sharp-edged" shovel tooth made of high-strength alloy steel. Its cutting edge has been quenched and has a hardness of HRC50 or above, and its impact resistance is 30% higher than that of ordinary shovel teeth; when loading and unloading loose materials such as sand and coal, "flat-edged" shovel teeth are more suitable. The wide contact area can reduce the pressure per unit area and avoid local wear caused by material splashing. A case of a mining company shows that after selecting the right shovel tooth type, the replacement cycle is extended from 20 days to 45 days, and the annual procurement cost is reduced by nearly 50%.

The operating angle determines the wear rate. Many novices are accustomed to inserting materials vertically. In fact, the best insertion angle is 30°-45°. At this time, the shovel tooth edge and the contact surface of the material are in progressive contact, which can disperse the impact force. After filling the bucket with materials, the bucket should be lifted to 30-50cm off the ground to avoid the shovel teeth dragging on the ground. Tracking data of a certain infrastructure project shows that the bottom wear of the shovel teeth that maintain a reasonable ground clearance is 60% less than that of the shovel teeth that drag on the ground. Do not hit the carriage hard when unloading. Slowly tip the bucket to let the materials slide naturally to reduce the rigid collision between the shovel teeth and the carriage.

Pay attention to "detail signals" in daily inspections. Before each operation, check whether the shovel tooth fixing bolts are loose. If the bolts are found to be threaded or broken, replace them with high-strength anti-loosening bolts immediately to avoid safety accidents caused by the shovel teeth falling off. Observe the degree of wear of the shovel teeth: When the cutting edge is worn to 1/3 of the original thickness, it can be repaired by surfacing welding. Use wear-resistant welding wire to surfacing 3-5mm protective layer on the cutting edge. The service life of the repaired shovel teeth can be restored to 80% of the new parts; if cracks appear at the root of the tooth, even if the length is only 2cm, they must be replaced in time to prevent the cracks from extending and causing the entire shovel teeth to break.

Storage maintenance cannot be ignored. Idle loaders need to clean the shovel teeth, remove the concrete or slag adhering to the surface, apply anti-rust oil and cover with rainproof cloth. Shovel teeth that are stored for a long time should be placed horizontally in a dry and ventilated place to avoid deformation caused by stacking and heavy pressure. The practice of a rental company has proved that the rust rate of shovel teeth stored in a standardized manner is less than 5% when they are used again, while the rust rate of shovel teeth stacked randomly is as high as 30%.

Seasonal maintenance has a focus. In the high temperature environment in summer, the pins at the connection between the shovel teeth and the bucket need to be filled with lithium-based grease every week to prevent grease loss caused by high temperature; in the low temperature in winter, low-temperature antifreeze grease should be used to prevent grease solidification from affecting bucket activity. After working in a dusty environment, the gap between the shovel teeth needs to be flushed with a high-pressure water gun to prevent sand and dust from entering the worn pins.

The key to mastering these skills is "predictive maintenance" - eliminating potential faults in the bud, rather than passively replacing them after the shovel teeth fail. As an experienced driver with 20 years of experience said: "Take care of the shovel teeth just like you take care of your tools. If you treat it with care, it will give you efficient rewards."
